Wallpapering Instructions

It is not recommended to wallpaper in a room where the temperature is below 10°C or the relative humidity is above 65%.

1. Before you start
To avoid mistakes during installation, please check the wallpaper before starting work. Before opening the packaging, make sure that all rolls have the same design/article number and the same batch/lot number (colour shade). If the pattern or shade (lot) does not match, please contact the showroom. Only rolls in original factory packaging can be returned. Follow these instructions and the guidance shown on the roll label. Wallpaper defects discovered after installation are not eligible for return.
2. Surface preparation
The surface to be wallpapered must be clean, dry and sound. Concrete walls must be filled, levelled and primed beforehand. For priming, use only suitable primers or wallpaper paste intended for wallpapering (as a primer coat), according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
3. Choosing the right paste
Use a high-quality paste that is suitable for the specific type of wallpaper (follow the paste manufacturer’s instructions on the packaging).
4. Work sequence
4.1. Open the first roll. Before cutting, carefully check the wallpaper for any manufacturing defects.
4.2. Read the instructions supplied with the wallpaper and follow the requirements for that particular wallpaper type.
4.3. The roll label indicates (using international symbols) or describes how to match the pattern. Cut the wallpaper into lengths, taking the pattern repeat (rapport) into account, and check the match before cutting. Number each length on the reverse side in the order it was cut from the roll. Hang the lengths in the same order.
4.4. Before hanging the first length, mark a vertical start line using a plumb line (or spirit level). Start from the far corner of the room.
4.5. Hang the first three lengths and make sure you are satisfied with the result. Claims related to installation will not be accepted after wallpapering.
4.6. Once you are satisfied with the result, continue with the remaining lengths. Do not cut up a roll until you have checked the wallpaper visually. Do not open the next roll until you have confirmed the quality of the previous roll.
5. Hanging paper wallpaper
5.1. Use a cellulose-based paste that must be mixed (diluted) and is intended for standard paper wallpaper.
5.2. Apply paste to the back of the length, paying particular attention to edges and corners. Fold the pasted length (paste to paste) and leave it for a few minutes to allow the paste to soak in.
5.3. Position the length on the wall and remove air bubbles with a smoothing tool or rubber roller. Hang lengths butt-jointed. Carefully press the seams with a seam roller. Remove any paste residue with a damp cloth before it dries (dried paste may leave stains on the face/pattern). Keep the room temperature stable while drying and avoid draughts.
5.4. For better edge adhesion, apply additional paste to the wall along the seam areas.
6. Installing pre-pasted wallpaper
If you purchased pre-pasted wallpaper, the walls must be very well prepared. If you are not sure the walls are properly prepared, use standard paste suitable for this wallpaper type, as described in Section 5.
If you decide to use the pre-applied adhesive layer, place the wallpaper length face down in a bath of cold water for the time specified by the manufacturer. Remove it carefully and make sure both the face and reverse sides are fully wetted (soaking times may vary—see the instructions supplied with the roll).
7. Installing non-woven wallpaper
For non-woven (fleece-backed) wallpaper, apply the appropriate paste directly to the wall and then position the wallpaper onto the pasted wall.
8. Installing wallpaper with metallic inks
If the wallpaper is decorated with metallic inks (bronze, silver), use only methylcellulose-based paste suitable for this wallpaper type. This guide cannot account for the professional training of installers or every situation and detail that may arise in practice.

Types of Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a durable and attractive interior finish and a great way to create a warm, cosy atmosphere.
Today, in addition to traditional paper wallpaper, manufacturers offer non-woven, acrylic, vinyl, textile and metallic-surface wallpapers. Modern designs imitating marble, leather or Venetian plaster can give an interior an exclusive, stylish look.

Paper wallpaper is one of the most environmentally friendly wall finishes: it is breathable and helps regulate moisture. It is ideal for children’s rooms, bedrooms and spaces where people spend long periods. Some manufacturers apply special coatings that improve water resistance and allow light wet wiping while retaining the benefits of paper. However, paper wallpaper is also one of the more difficult types to hang, and careful wall preparation is essential.
Non-woven wallpaper is one of the most modern types. Non-woven is similar to paper but can contain different fibres (cellulose, cotton, synthetics). It is breathable and offers good wear resistance. It is suitable for most rooms. It is easy to install because paste is applied to the wall rather than to the wallpaper. It is also easy to remove: it may strip off in full lengths without residue, or in two-layer constructions it may leave a base layer on the wall that can be used for re-wallpapering.
Vinyl wallpaper is among the most hard-wearing wall coverings. It consists of a vinyl (PVC) layer on a paper or non-woven backing. It is ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, hallways and high-traffic areas. Vinyl wallpapers vary by type (foamed, smooth, embossed) and differ in density and abrasion resistance; they can also help conceal minor surface imperfections. They are washable and some can be gently scrubbed. They are easy to hang because the surface does not absorb paste, and any paste on the face can be wiped off with a damp cloth.
Textile wallpaper is one of the most luxurious wall finishes. It consists of fabric or textile fibres on a paper or non-woven backing and is well suited to bedrooms and living rooms. It offers good sound absorption. Some wallpapers are treated with Teflon, improving fade resistance and flame resistance. Textile wallpaper should be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. There are many varieties—from satin to velvet. Textile-based wallcoverings can be challenging to hang, especially handcrafted wallpapers made from natural woven materials.
Metallic-surface wallpaper is growing in popularity. It combines an elegant look with modern design and functionality. The backing is paper or non-woven, and the top layer is aluminium foil. It requires very thorough wall preparation, as even small imperfections will show.
Photo wallpaper (wall murals) is an excellent way to add variety and bring design ideas to life. It is commonly printed on vinyl or satin with a synthetic non-woven base, or on high-quality textured paper. It is durable and offers a high-quality image but is not moisture resistant and is therefore not recommended for kitchens or bathrooms. Photo wallpaper is supplied as squares, strips or panels. Before hanging, it is essential to mark the wall and dry-fit the panels/lengths.
